If you play WoW (who doesn’t?) then you’ve probably seen websites with nifty mouse-over links to items, displaying all the stats without you having to click on anything. If you are wondering how they do it so you can set it up on your website, then you are in luck, its a very simple process.

The first thing you have to know is how the items are identified. First go and visit WowHead or Allakhazam. Now search for an item… any item. If you look at the URL in your browser you will see that it ends in a 5 digit number. The number is the same for an item across any of these sites. This is the item’s ID.

Now you need the mod. The Itemstats mod can be found here, make sure you change the language to English on the right hand side! First you download the mod itself, and then you download a file specific to what you are modding. The mod works for WordPress, phpBB, Joomla, Xoops, and quite a few more common website programs. The installation instructions are included in the mod, or can be found on the website.

Finally you need to link an item. This is the easy part! Go and find the item ID for the item you want and use the code [item]43990[/item] to include it on your website. By default you will have to click the item one time before it is added to your database and the mouse over works for your viewers!
