You know when they said chocolate was bad for you, it wasn’t strictly true! Of course, having chocolate for every meal, every day, might not be so brilliant, but eating chocolate in moderation actually has health benefits! We’re here to bust those chocolate myths and tell you why a little bit of what you fancy: a Dairy Milk, Galaxy or those scrummy high cocoa content chocolate bars can do you the world of good!
No more guilty chocolate eating for us! Hooray!
1. Living Longer
Yes! Surveys have shown that eating chocolate in moderation could protect against heart disease and therefore could promote longer life. It is believed that consuming cocoa is linked to cardiovascular health benefits, where blood pressure is reduced and in turn resulting in less deaths. Although the evidence is inconclusive, it’s pretty promising!
2. Anti-Oxidant
Reports have also shown that chocolate, particularly chocolate with a high cocoa content may have anti-oxidant benefits. By eating a moderate amount of dark chocolate it may help to produce antioxidants which help to lower the levels of free radicals in the blood. The impact of this is said to promote a healthy heart.
3. PMT
You know that chocolate craving you get? Well there may be a scientific explanation for it! Low levels of magnesium are directly linked to PMT and chocolate can substitute this as it contains high levels of magnesium. It also stimulates endorphin production, making you feel happier! A little chocolate can make you feel perked up, just don’t eat too much!
4. Energy
Chocolate is a great source of energy, it also contains many essential vitamins with A, B, C,D and E vitamins all present in chocolate along with calcium, potassium and magnesium.
5. Aphrodisiac
Lastly, ladies, it has been suggested that chocolate may be an aphrodisiac too! It has a reputation that stems as far back as Casanova, who ate chocolate as an aphrodisiac. It is known to release Phenylethylamine and Serotonin, chemicals which promote euphoric effects, so you’ll have an energy boost and feel good, explaining the possibility of it being an aphrodisiac.

Chocolate is delicious and if it comes with some health benefits – brilliant. Just remember, chocolate that is high in cocoa content is better for you as it has less saturated fats and sugars in it. Don’t gorge on too much chocolate though, everything in moderation. Vegetables are really good for you too! http://www.littlewoodsbingo.com
