A news article I read this week titled Giving Patients a Lift had this to say;

The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) has established the Mary and Bob Cosentino Travel Grant Program to help newly-diagnosed patients consult with an expert on this very grave asbestos-related cancer.

Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor that aggressively and painfully invades the lining of the lungs, heart or stomach until it destroys the vital organs. Research to understand mesothelioma and to develop effective treatments has lagged far behind other cancers. As a result, most available treatments are experimental and available only at one of the handful of medical centers that specialize in mesothelioma.

My biggest complaint here is that millions of dollars are spent on health care in our country. It’s a huge industry. Sadly it is the most dysfunctional part of our free land here in America. How did our medical care system get so messed up? We should be leaps and bounds ahead in the medical miracle department by now, but we’re too busy charging $160 for an antibiotic to people with no insurance that might just be choosing on whether to have that antibiotic or keep their electricity on for the month. Something is definitely wrong with this picture. I hope in the 2008 elections coming up we elect a president that knows how to fix the mess we have made of health care in the USA.
