Zune HD: Microsofts iPhone Answer?
by GeekGirl on Jun.02, 2009, under Digital Geek, Generally Geeky, iPod Crazy
We all have been waiting and waiting for Microsoft to come up with their own version or answer to the iPhone, well our wait might be over! Microsoft has issued a statement on their latest product.
Meet the Zune HD, which is the newer version of Microsoft’s Zune mp3 player that has been put out against Apple’s famous iPod. The second generation Zune is still some what like the first generation, however some big changes have also come with the new version Zune.

So what does the new Zune HD do and have? Can it compete with the iPod and iPhone? It is fully integrated with the Xbox Live, has Wi-Fi and is in HD. Here are a few specs for you-
3.3 inch, 16.9 screen and multitouch technology.
As for if it can hold its own weight against the iPod and iPhone, it could, but could also full fill other areas that hand held media lacks. Bringing all the media in one hand held device, might just make Apple fail with hand held media players.
Zune HD Video Hands On from Gizmodo on Vimeo.
Of course like the previous Zune, it can and will play music as that was and is the main purpose for it. But they also hope to fill the niche of hand held mobile media/gaming players that are all-in-one. Despite the fact that the iPhone and iPod Touch both have gaming applications, it doesn’t exactly work the best for most hard core gamers who want a good gaming system.
It should be released to stores and the public sometime this fall(though no official release date has been issued as of yet, well keep you posted!) and more info will be released during the E3 show next week as well as the release date gets closer.
How do you feel about the Zune HD and do you think it will take down Apple’s iPodand iPhone?
Gotta have one? Why not!
The iPhone at Christmas
by Steph on Dec.10, 2008, under iPod Crazy
The iPhone has undoubtedly become one of the best multimedia devices of the 21st Century. It’s a flashy gadget packed with the best features that we want from a phone, including, but not limited to, a portable media player, internet and email access at your fingertip, unbelievable real-time 3D graphics and it looks amazing too. One thing that really has wowed us is the sheer amount of brilliant, wacky and occasionally downright weird applications that are available for download to your iPhone. As Christmas is coming, we’ve sourced the best festive applications available for the iPhone that are sure to get you in the Christmas spirit.
Global Snow Reports
This nifty little application will definitely get you in the Christmas spirit as you’ll know exactly where in the world it is snowing. You can personalize the application to your own requirements to ensure that you’ll know exactly when the snow is on its way. Remember, it’s always better to be snowed in than snowed out!
Christmas Countdown
The Christmas Countdown is available as a free application which allows you to keep tabs on the arrival of Christmas. This up-to-the-minute countdown will mean that you’re never lost without the precise time to go! You can also listen to Christmas music whilst watching the minutes tick away, what could be more fun than that?
Let It Snow Globe
Our favourite application for this Christmas is a virtual snow globe. It works in the same way that a standard glass snow globe would, all you need to do is shake your iPhone and you’ll have gorgeous snow tumbling down the screen to reveal Santa and a Christmas tree. Not real snow of course, that would be ridiculous, the iphone can do a lot but making real snow…not just yet.
Christmas Tree
Download the Christmas tree application and you’ll be presented with a bare Christmas tree and the tools needed to decorate it. You’ll be provided with a selection of pretty decorations to trim the tree with; maybe you can take inspiration for your own tree from the virtual version!
Christmas Sounds
This application may start to become annoying after a while, we’re just warning you! You can download a selection of the best Christmas sounds including the jingling of sleigh bells and that famous ‘Ho Ho Ho’. The application also gives you a selection of Christmas tunes too. The best thing about this application is that you are able to play the music down the phone to your friends and family!
After amusing yourself with the various downloads available for the iPhone, perhaps use the phone in its basic function: phone home and wish everyone a Happy Christmas!
Need a new iPod battery?
by GeekGirl on Sep.22, 2008, under iPod Crazy
One of the downfalls of using an iPod is that you can’t really get in there and change the battery when it starts to wear down. And if you purchased a refurbished iPod, chances are that you’re battery doesn’t want to hold a charge. Believe me, I learned this lesson well with my son’s iPods.
Not one, but two refurbished iPod Nanos in our house and neither of them ever wants to hold a charge. Sending it off the Apple can be time consuming, frustrating, and expensive to have the battery replaced. So, I started looking into places that offer iPod Repair services.
I was pleasantly surprised when I found iPod Juice and their Apple iPod repair service. They can replace the battery, and they guarantee that it will last up to 10 years, which is way more than any place local I found to do the job for me. They seem to have a service available for every generation of iPod, so your bases are all covered. Repairs and replacement batteries are all guaranteed, so there’s no risk involved.
Battery replacement isn’t all they can help you with either. They can fix your broken down iPod and make it work like new again. Even if you’ve somehow managed to crack the screen, they’re there to help. Their experienced technicians will get to work fixing your iPod right away and get it back to you asap before you even have time to miss it. There’s a no obligation evaluation available as well, in case you’re just not sure. They’ll have a look at it the day it arrives and get back to you with all the details on getting it fixed.
If you’ve gotten an iPhone and already managed to drop it, break it, or otherwise abuse it and it needs a bit of TLC, iPod Juice also offers Apple iPhone repair and maintenance.
i-tastic i-everything

Originally the iHome series of items might have been something you saw on one of those fancy remodeling shows or in the big luxury homes in the expensive neighborhood. But a lot of the iHome products are surprisingly affordable. More affordable than the iPod that goes in them ~lol~ You can get some iHome portable stereo speakers for an iPod Shuffle (Black)
to i-power your holiday get together with tunes for under $50.
iphone + Tiffany’s =
by GeekGirl on Oct.20, 2007, under Beauty Gadgets, iPod Crazy
One totally wicked gift for the geek girl in your life. This is definitely not one of your average gold bracelets that you buy at a department store. Actually, it’s not one you buy at any store. It’s a total concept design from GeekSugar (photo is from GeekSugar) to create iGems, an interesting combination of iPhone icons and a Tiffany’s bracelet. I think they should go ahead and go forward and make these little creations for real! iFANs everywhere would be buying them up for the holidays.
*special thanks and linkage go to GeekSugar for their totally cool geek girl idea.
the new ipod nano video
by GeekGirl on Sep.30, 2007, under iPod Crazy

We’re on what, 3rd generation of nano now?! Despite my annoyance at the shiny productRED ipod nano I bought for my husband earlier this year being obsolete already, I have to say the the new nano with video is pretty cute. In case you are short on christmas gift ideas and you want to get me something, I’ll take a green one please.
Seriously though, Apple is great at reinventing the wheel and making it look cool, aren’t they? When it comes down to it, an iPod is just an MP3 player just like any other MP3 player. It just looks much sexier. You can have a plain old MP3 from Target or you can have an iPod! Which would you rather have? I doubt I have to wait for your answer, even though the plain jane player from Target only costs about $30! Talk about huge price difference.
I think what makes me most annoyed is how it’s going to be to buy accessories for the iPod nanos that are already in the house ~ and we have THREE of them. Hubby has one, and the older two boys each have one. It was hard enough to find things to go with them and now cases and arm bands and things like that are going to be coming out in the new wider size to fit the video nano. Ugh.

blast pod audio rocker
by GeekGirl on Sep.30, 2007, under iPod Crazy

iPod accessories just keep getting bigger and bigger. This is a whole chair designed to use with your ipod. It features powerful 3-watt speakers built into headrest, all powered by built-in 10-watt amplifier.
It’s not just for chilling out listening to music either. There are cords and ports for DVD player, TV, VCR or your MP3 player / iPod music player! The chair is padded with Dacron and covered in microfiber for easy to clean care. Would make a nice video game chair too I think.
I think these would be fun in a laid back office setting, maybe in the break area if you have one. Or stick it in the corner of your own office for when you have a few minutes to meditate and relax! Would be way more comfortable than the usual Bush furniture office chairs that are behind the desk.
no need for expensive Nike shoes!
by GeekGirl on Aug.21, 2007, under Healthy Gadgets, iPod Crazy
So, you like to go walking, jogging, running what have you and you like listening to your ipod when you do so. You’re not alone. Nike knew that when they came out with the cool Nike + iPod technology. Sure you can grab the sensor, you’ve got an iPod already. You’ve already spent a small fortune…. but you don’t have any Nike shoes? Even if price isn’t an issue you might not like Nike shoes, I know I don’t. They squish my feet! And at least two of my kids said the same thing about them.

Never fear non-Nike shoe wearers of the world. Grantwood Technology has heard your pleas and they have come up with this awesome solution. As long as your shoes lace up you can use the nike+iPod technology to make your walking, running, and jogging experience more enjoyable and musically enhanced. The best part is the shoe pouch only costs $6.99! And it even comes in your choice of eight different colors. More than one pair of running shoes? Not a problem at this price go ahead and color coordinate.
Just a few features of the shoe pouch ~
- Securely attaches the Nike+iPod sensor to any lace type shoe
- Holds the Nike+iPod sensor in a tight, small neoprene pouch
- Maintains full accuracy of the Nike+iPod system
- Attaches through the laces at 4 attachment points, low profile

iBlaster Orb Pink Speaker System
by GeekGirl on Aug.01, 2007, under iPod Crazy
iBlaster Orb serves as a complete docking station for your iPod. Keep your iPod fully charged and synced with your PC or Mac all the time. The Orb is a lightweight compact speaker system ready to deliver perfect sound from not only your iPod, but any MP3 player, CD player or even your PC or Mac or any other device with a mini-jack on it.
System is not wireless, uses the included AC adapter for power. Just another gizmo to plug into the surge protector. Great for at home, or teenager’s room to listen to your favorite downloaded music without the headphones while you work, clean, or whatever you need to do. Portable, lightweight design makes it easy to take along for traveling, but the way the airport tosses luggage around and all the scanners it goes through I think it might be better left at home if you’re flying. (My last flight killed off my electric razor)
