WiiFit still coming soon
by GeekGirl on Apr.30, 2008, under Gaming Geekery, Healthy Gadgets
Way back in November I told you about the WiiFit and how I hoped we had managed to snag a Wii before it was available in the United States because I thought it looked fabulous. At that time I was hoping to see the Wii Fit in January or February -lol- It’s April now holey schmoley!
Anyhow Wii Fit will be a reality soon and you can pre-order for the May 21, 2008 release date here in the states. Woohoo! If we weren’t moving and pinching pennies right now I would seriously consider putting in a preorder for one. I think it’s going to be a great product for the Wii and it is definitely going to make people think differently about Nintendo.

gadgets for your safety and wellbeing
by GeekGirl on Mar.06, 2008, under Healthy Gadgets
My upcoming townhome inspection reminds me that we have everyday, useful gadgets all over the house that keep us safe and alert us when something might be wrong in our home. How often we take these things for granted.
We have three smoke detectors that tell us when there may potentially be a fire in the house. I don’t know about yours, but mine also detects fast increases in heat, if my clothes dryer gets too hot, or the fire in the fireplace is too big that sucker will start to beep. We have air filters on the furnace/ac unit that help clean the air circulating through our home. A good filter is very helpful for the boys asthma and allergies.
We also have a carbon monoxide detector in our home to monitor carbon monoxide levels. Carbon monoxide leaks are silent and unnoticeable at first. By time you realize it’s happened it might just be too late, and no one wants that to happen. Want to see extreme safety detection gear? You could always check out these methane gas detectors.
As a reminder March 9th is daylight savings time ~ spring those clocks ahead one hour! This is also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector. That way you don’t forget. I just bought a big pack of batteries for the occassion myself.
how’s that new year resolution going?
by GeekGirl on Jan.27, 2008, under Healthy Gadgets
Yes, I’m talking to you. Put down the Fitness Magazine and the cup of coffee loaded with sugar and get your butt in gear. You set goals for yourself and you’re slacking already. January isn’t even over yet. How many times did you go for a walk on your lunch break? How many hours did you spend on the elliptical at the gym this month? If you’re like the rest of the world you probably got bored by the second week of January and went back to the way things were before. That’s okay. Don’t feel bad about it …. do something about it. Make a change.
pain relief and relaxation
by GeekGirl on Dec.31, 2007, under Healthy Gadgets

My mom suffers from fibromyalgia and I personally have arthritis in my hands and knees, so anytime I see a soothing relaxing pain relieving gizmo I am all ears and very alert. Some things work, some things don’t work at all, and some things are just helpful in the relaxation department. A lot of times just getting relaxed is the hardest part.
This Elasto Gel Cervical Collar Wrap was designed for fibromyalgia pain relief. Apply Hot or Cold Therapy for the neck for that relief you really need! Perfect to treat fibromyalgia pain and discomfort. The Elasto-Gel Cervical Collar is made of a tough, flexible gel that is covered with a four-way stretch material. This allows for maximum conformity, heat transfer, and comfort. It’s made specifically to contour to the neck and upper spine areas, one of the most common areas fibro patients experience discomfort.

Also good for kids and husbands with greasy slimey hands! Now worries, sleek design and modern look won’t distract from your fancy Hansgrohe faucet but it also won’t hide the pile of dirty dishes in the sink …. Order online or go to Target.
Give the Gift of Oral Health
by GeekGirl on Dec.28, 2007, under Healthy Gadgets
Or win it… either way. I love Oral B’s powered toothbrushes! I used to think that they were just for lazy brushing, but when my dental hygienist recommended I switch to using one a few years ago and to toss the boring old plain toothbrush I found out there was a big difference. It actually did a better job.
Ellen DeGeneres recently recommended Oral-B’s Triumph With SmartGuide toothbrush ad a great gift for the holidays. Now, 100 people can win this item by entering a contest Ellen and Oral-B are holding. Enter to win your Oral B Triumph at Ellen’s website.
Contest ends 12/31!! So hurry up and get entered! Good luck
get fit and do yoga with your Wii
by GeekGirl on Nov.13, 2007, under Gaming Geekery, Healthy Gadgets
Well, that is if you have a Wii. I haven’t managed to snag one yet. One of the things people love about the Wii is that it gets you moving and doing fun things. Wii Fit is just another thing to add that. You can even do Yoga with your Wii! Yoga + Video Games = You fit and having fun! The release date hasn’t been announced yet, but you can sign up at Amazon to get notifed when the Wii Fit
is ready to go. It looks as though it’s going to be about $70 for the WiiFit that comes complete with balance board.
As users stand on the Wii Balance Board, included with Wii Fitness, their body’s overall balance is tied to the game in a way they’ve never experienced before.
The active-play phenomenon started by Wii Sports now spreads to your whole body thanks to a pressure-sensitive Wii balance board, which comes packed with Wii Fit. The board is used for an extensive array of fun and dynamic activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. Many of these activities focus towards providing a “core” workout, a popular exercise method that emphasizes slower, controlled motions. Family members will have fun staying active and talking about and comparing their results and progress on a new channel on the Wii Menu.

serious things to think about
by GeekGirl on Aug.13, 2007, under Healthy Gadgets
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer linked to asbestos exposure that occurs in the sac lining of the chest, abdomen, or the lining of the heart. One of many forms of cancer that are out there plaguing all of us right now. Cancer has no cure, and in most cases we don’t even know what causes cancer. This particular form of cancer is linked to exposure to asbestos and exposure to asbestos is the only confirmed cause of mesothelioma. Fortunately if you or a loved one have been exposed there are Mesothelioma treatments available to help. Sometimes the wonders of medical technology amaze me … other times they baffle me. But, that’s a whole different topic!
my fitness pal calorie counter
by GeekGirl on Jul.24, 2007, under Healthy Gadgets
This isn’t so much of a gadget as it is an aid, but you need your computer to get to it so it’s still gadgety to me. My computer is just a great big gadget that I can make do whatever I want – except clean the toilet, if only it would do that I’d be thrilled.
Anyhow, we’ve talked about weight loss gadgets, gizmos and aids before. One of the things a lot of diets tell you to do is keep track of how many calories you’ve taken in for the day and how many calories burned for the day. This makes sure you getting enough food and energy for the day, not going over, and doing any damage to your body. I used to think calories weren’t a big deal until I talked with my friend Val the personal trainer, and we started keeping track and she told me that if I didn’t increase my calorie intake I’d never lose any weight. Imagine that, eat more!?! on a diet? You betcha as long as you’re eating the right foods you’ll have a full tummy all day long.
MyFitnessPal offers a handy free calorie counter to help you keep track of those pesky calories and it helps you figure out how many calories were in that meal you cooked even if you’re not sure. It’s a great little tool for finding your calorie balance and getting your diet on the right track. Remember running fast in a video game does not count as aerobic exercise
