I’m following along with my friend Marcus on doing this list of 101 steps toward being a better blogger. Basically Marcus is making a series out of the 101 steps to becoming a better blogger found in an article over on Lifehack.org.

I am catching up and fortunately the first two steps I have done already! Easy peasy ;) I had to decide which blog I wanted to focus on for the steps, although I’m sure I’ll be hitting all my blogs I really wanted to give this one some extra attention since it’s still new and working on getting readers and links and all the things that make a blog a blog.

In the intro post Marcus posted his stats from Popuri.us ~ so here are mine. This is a cool little service btw, you can grab all your stats in one place and even get a nifty widget to put in your sidebar, which I’ve also done.

Google PageRank: 1
Alexa Rank: 591,850
Compete Rank: 0
Quantcast Rank: 0
Google BackLinks: 0
Yahoo BackLinks: 109
Live Search BackLinks: 0
Technorati Links: N/A - I do have technorati authority so I’m not sure if just isn’t pinging right or what
del.icio.us Bookmarks: 1
Bloglines subscribers: 0

On to Step #1 ~

First, I’m going to assume you’re using Wordpress. You are using Wordpress aren’t you? The built-in SEO and pinging functions make Wordpress a search engine machine.

Why yes, yes I am using Wordpress and I love my Wordpress. Thank you for noticing.

Set your options, use titles as permalinks, setup a ping list, and make use of all those built in Wordpress goodies!

And then let’s grab Step #2 ~

Sign up for feedburner.

That was easy because I’ve been a member of feedburner for ages and ages and I run all my feeds through feedburner! burn baby burn!

There we go steps 1 and 2 done, checked off, outta the way. Come on and join us in improving the blogosphere and building good blogging technique. The steps get harder as the list goes on! So don’t go thinking it’s going to be a cake walk.

Technorati changed the way authority is measured now.
